-This work is from MBW’s 2009 Line Series that consisted of four works, each produced in an edition of 75 (Line Kiss, Mina Linesa, Lichtenline, Line Davis). The series is also referred to as the “barcode series”. The works are sometimes classified as op, pop or appropriation art. The barcode stenciling distorts our visual perception of the image, and although only “half” the painting the effectively there, the viewer is able to visualize the complete painting.By doing so the artist reveals but also hides the painting from the viewer, questioning how much of what we classify as art can be determined solely by the visual field.
