Closer inspection of LAUNCH TONIGHT by FAILE (Detailed Images)- Released in conjunction with the Bedtime Stories show featuring some of the new processes involved in the wood paintings. This is an 18-color silkscreen print on an archival Coventry Rag 290gsm, deckled edge paper. Based off the new image “Tonight We Launch” from the show. It was quite a journey to try and convey the wood block paintings as works on paper though we couldn’t be more pleased with the results, we hope you enjoy!

Harbour City, Hong Kong: In celebration of the opening of the Hong Kong’s luxury shopping mall, New Jersey born KAWS has put together some new site-specific works. The body of artworks titled “Passing Through” play between concepts of toys and high art. The collection is crowned by a massive KAWS Companion figure. The below images document the genesis of the mammoth piece. The full exhibition which will open the general public tomorrow October 24th. There will a thorough selection of works ranging from his iconic Chums, Tweetie toys to Pinocchio and much more. Furthermore Harbour City got some nice Kaws wall decoration and paintings have also been created specifically for the occasion.

Reminiscent of Fairey’s works during the Barrack Obama Presidential Campaign, this new release speaks to the political power of the ACLU. The American Civil Liberties Union works to preserve and defend the Constitutional rights of the American people. The work was commissioned by the ACLU as a celebration to the end of the organization $407 Million Dollar Leading Freedom Forward fundraising campaign. In collaboration with actress Olivia Wilde (star in the upcoming film Tron: Legacy that tells the story of a virtual-world worker looks to take down the Master Control Program – very in tune with the ACLU’s mission) to produced this work. Wilde is portrayed as a contemporary Libertas, the inspiration for the Statue of Liberty, embodying a sense of freedom.
MR BRAINWASH: Fashion Week 2011 MBW’s ICONS exhibition in New York City’ Meathpacking District played host to the after-party for performer, Gwen Stefani’s clothing line L.A.M.B. Two new editions have just been released from DOLK, our favorite Norwegian street artist. The works were produced in collaboration with HMP (handmadeposters) the artist exclusive printer. HMP based out of Norway was started with the motivation of a love of street art – to support the young artists working in that medium, and to bring their work out to people all over the world.

A bit of history on the genesis of the series: Al Rockoff collaborated with Shepard to create the Duality of Humanity series based on Rockoff’s coverage of Khmer Rouge takeover of the Vietnam War and Phnom Penh-Cambodia’s capital. Shepard wanted to express the dramatic juxtaposition of war and peace that is accomplished by Rockoff’s photojournalism. Each illustration has been slightly altered, with the photographer’s consent, to create a more powerful symbol for peace. These shpts have been archived since the Vietman War. Since then, Shepard is the first to bring Al’s work to the masses.
