Collective Perspective: MBW’s Spray-Can

THE CINQUE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE ON MR BRAINWASH’S SPRAY CANS

The spray can has become an iconic image for Mr Brainwash. Like Warhol, who re-invented high art in the 1960’s by putting a twist on classic American images, Mr. Brainwash puts his own unique stamp on the highly inspired piece by re-creating the Campbell’s soup can in order to resemble his own signature spray can.

Following in the legacy of his predecessor Warhol, Mr. Brainwash creates a true hybrid that all can be inspired by.

MBW’s spray can imagery was the face of his inaugural “Life is Beautiful” exhibition in Los Angeles, California as they were featured on the cover of the LA Weekly Magazine that announced the the show. This magazine article was MBW’s first major press, an consequently marks a pivotal growing point in his career. It was this exhibition and article that unquestionably brought Mr Brainwash into the art world’s perspective. 2008 is the best vintage for Mr Brainwash, as it is the year that marks his evolution from a documentary filmmaker to an artist, from an observer of the movement to a player in it. Massive cans were created for the artist’s recent ICONS show in NYC. The cans ranged in size from 4ft to 12ft and have now been embodied as a print in this series.
