FAILE: Faile At Auction Result
With the February 2011 Contemporary Art Sales behind us, review of the results shows Faile as quite the contender. Faile, a New York based street art collaboration, has found a place in the auction line-ups at Christies, Sotheby’s, and Phillips de Pury and proven street art can sell along side works by leading post-war artists. The most notable Faile work at last week’s auction was a canvas titled Shanghai 13. This 72 x 72 inch / 183 x 183 cm acrylic and silkscreen on canvas fetched 46,230.USD selling above the pre-auction estimates of 29,088 – 40,400.USD. Faile is an artist(s) to keep an eye on, especially as Faile continues to be placed in auctions by major auction houses. The inclusion of Faile in these recent auctions, brings a strong representative of street art into the high art marketplace. Faile is one of the few street artist(s) to find himself a position in this forum and it will be interesting to see if he can serve with Banksy as a major street artist and exemplar of the genre at auction.
