K-Guy: New Series in the Works (Death of Venus)

K-Guy X Botticelli

British street artist K-Guy, known for his visual rants at society on the street of London and worldwide is at work on a new series that plays with Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus.

K-Guy’s approach reconditions the 15th century tempera on canvas originaly painted for the villa of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de’ Medici, titling his piece The Death of Venus. His ‘modern’ interpretation suggests a sense of finality rather then beginning. K-Guy seems to use this piece to highlight the death of artistry like that of Botticelli, as supported by the title, contemporary method of paint application, and the razor blades that adorn one of his Venus images.

K-Guy was kind enough to bring us in for a peek as he develops these new works. These works are not yet completed and are in “Stage 1″ as noted by the artist.

I think the ‘death’ part is not death of artistry but the death of womankind due to the ease and need of going under the surgeons knife
