Opera Gallery Hong Kong: Mr Brainwash @ Opera Gallery Hong Kong
As we reported on last week, Mr Brainwash has made his entrance in the China this month with his a show at Opera Gallery Hong Kong. Mr Brainwash has showed with Opera Gallery in the past in New York, Miami, Paris, and now Hong Kong. Mr Brainwash continues to take on the leading cities of the world with his art introducing residents to the works of street art. Mr Brainwash in this new Hong Kong show presents a body of artworks that blurs the lines between Warholian Pop Art and Graffiti/Urban/Street Art – sourcing styles and imagery from both artistic genres. On March 15th, 2011 the Wall Street Journal (WSJ.Com) reported on the Opera Gallery Hong Kong show interviewing Mr Brainwash to get details on what collectors could expect to see in his first show in China. Favorite segments from the Mr Brainwash interview include the following:
Q: You’ve said that most art deals with the idea of brainwashing. Can you talk a bit more about that?
A: Today the world is run by corporations who are using advertising on everything (iPhone, iPad, TV, Internet, magazines); nothing is left untouched. That’s what I mean by brainwash.
Q: Why do you make art?
A: Why do we eat? It’s a necessity right? Art for me is like [breathing], talking, eating —it’s a necessity.
