With New York and Milan logged, Paris Fashion week begins. Mr Brainwash makes his appearance on the French fashion scene through a collaboration with famed Parisian department store, Printemps. MBW has designed a series of 14 displays for the boutique, working with a celebratory theme of New Yorker/American culture. Amongst oversized cupcake figurines and gigantic hot dogs (street food / street art), Mr Brainwash has created a series of spray can monuments. The artist’s iconic,Warhol-esc spray paint cans have been recreated into sculptures that stand 5ft tall amongst flocks of decadent mannequins. In this project Mr Brainwash nurtures his ICONS Exhibition series of sculptural creatures made of shredded car tires, taking the idea to a new extreme. Sitting outside Printemps is a massive, 15ft King-Kong inspired ape made of used rubber tires. The work suggests a relationship to the artist most recent exhibition with the use of “splash hearts” and pink paint – the same color of paint that MBW doused his New York gallery space with. The artist’s decision to sculpt a monstrous gorilla associated with scaling the Empire State Building, also helps to tie the work to the Mr Brainwash’s art world success in NYC. Just as King-Kong invaded the city, disrupting civilization and shaking things up – so too does Mr Brainwash and his art (for the best).
The address for the art is 102 Rue de Provence, 75009 Paris, France (View Map)
