The Ring Art Center: Dan Colen, Dash Snow, Ryan McGinley (“Time is on my Side” Exhibition)
The Ring Art Center in Miami, Florida (#99 NE 39th Street) will present an exhibition featuring the art of Dan Colen, Dash Snow, and Ryan McGinley this December. The exhibition titled “Time is on my Side” will coincide with the 10th edition of Art Basel Miami Beach next month. This trio of artists coined “The Bowery School” /“Warhol’s Children” (see the NYMag article for more details on the genesis of this terminology- http://nymag.com/arts/art/profiles/26288/ ) will center around the work of Dan Colen, Dash Snow, and Ryan McGinley, the three frontrunners in a new generation of American contemporary artists. Colen, Snow, and McGinley represent a trilogy of talent that speak to the attitude and aurora of a rebellious group of young artists, living and working in New York City today. It is interesting that the Ring Art Center will host this event in the wake of the recent “Three Amigos” exhibitions in Milan, Italy that exhibited the works of Dan Colen, Dash Snow, and Nate Lowman (more info here). However Lowman is considered a late entry into the close knit friendship that resonates within the art of Colen, Snow, and McGinley, three artists that grew up together and discovered each others artistic voices collectively. The Ring Art Center’s group exhibition will provide a unique insight into the mediums and directions taken by Colen, Snow, and McGinley. Given the connection between these three artists and the individual styles they each work within, the opportunity to experience their art in a single exhibition makes for a rare commentary.
The “Time is on my Side” exhibition is a collaborative project between Allison Jacques Gallery, Filomena Soares Gallery, Team Gallery, and The Fire Place Project – a group of galleries that have been pivotal in fostering the careers of Colen, Snow, and McGinley. The Ring Art Center will present an exhibition of artworks hung alongside one another by three artists that worked and grew side by side.
