Shepard Fairey, Olivia Wilde and the ACLU Join Forces
Reminiscent of Fairey’s works during the Barrack Obama Presidential Campaign, this new release speaks to the political power of the ACLU. The American Civil Liberties Union works to preserve and defend the Constitutional rights of the American people. The work was commissioned by the ACLU as a celebration to the end of the organization $407 Million Dollar Leading Freedom Forward fundraising campaign. In collaboration with actress Olivia Wilde (star in the upcoming film Tron: Legacy that tells the story of a virtual-world worker looks to take down the Master Control Program – very in tune with the ACLU’s mission) to produced this work. Wilde is portrayed as a contemporary Libertas, the inspiration for the Statue of Liberty, embodying a sense of freedom.
Wilde gives her thoughts on the ACLU and the meaning of the work : “I believe we have to judge our society not by how we treat the privileged and the empowered, but by how we treat the silenced, the condemned, the undocumented, and all those whose views and rights are deemed inconvenient. The ACLU works tirelessly to uphold the promise of the Constitution, and I am proud to support their courageous and necessary work.”
